MINNESOTA: On his arrival at the residence of the University of Minnesota’s President for a welcome reception on 6 May, members of the Tibetan community presented ceremonial welcome dances and offered Droso Chema. Tibetan community President Tsewang Ngodup introduced the board members and the guests.

At the reception, the university thanked His Holiness for being an inspiration to all of them and conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for his presence.

Director May Jo Kereitzer said, “There is no one appropriate for this honor (honorary doctorate) than His Holiness the Dalai Lama whose vision for peace and non-violence inspired thousands around the world.”

DHARAMSHALA: Dr Lobsang Sangay won 27,051 votes (55 percent) in the final round of polling held on 20 March. Out of 83,990 registered voters, 49,184 cast their ballots.

The other two candidates – Kalon Trisur Tenzin Namgyal Tethong and Kasur Tashi Wangdi – got 18,405 (37.42 percent) and 3173 (6.44 percent) votes, respectively. 

In a thank you message, Dr Sangay said: "With profound humility I accept the Tibetan people's support and the post of Kalon Tripa. It is sobering to realize that nearly 50,000 people in over 30 countries voted in the recent Kalon Tripa and Chitue elections. Your overwhelming support is humbling and I will do my utmost to live up to your expectations."

"I view my election as an affirmation of the far-sighted policies of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and another important step towards the realization of his vision of a truly democratic Tibetan society. I believe the success of the recent Kalon Tripa and Chitue elections and the active participation of the Tibetans in the elections is a significant moral victory," he said.

Election Commission Announces Final Results of Elections

DHARAMSHALA: The Election Commission of the Central Tibetan Administration today declared the final results of the elections of the 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and the third Kalon Tripa directly elected by the Tibetan people in exile.

A two-day fifth health review meeting which has begun today will formulate plans and strengthen measures to improve the health care system in the Tibetan community.
DHARAMSHALA: The meeting is being attended by medical professionals from Delek Hospital, Mentsee Khang, staff of the Health Department, ten chief executive officers of the Tibetan hospitals and Ngoenga school for physically challenged children and five doctors from Tibetan settlements in different parts of India.

During this meeting medical professionals will make a comprehensive review of the past resolutions and its implementations.

Dharamsala, April 16 – The Tibetan leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has called on the international community, governments around the world and international NGOs to persuade China to “exercise restraint” in dealing with the situation in Tibet’s Ngaba region that has remained tense since Tuesday following confrontation between local population and Chinese troops.

The Tibetan leader, currently in Sweden on a visit, expressed concerns that the current situation if not controlled could become explosive with catastrophic consequences for the Tibetans in Ngaba. “In view of this I urge both the monks and the lay Tibetans of the area not to do anything that might be used as a pretext by the local authorities to massively crackdown on them,” said the Tibetan leader in an appeal letter posted on his official website.
